Indian Military Movement Control Offices (MCO) play a vital role in the operational and logistical framework of the Indian Armed Forces. Their roles and establishment functions include the following –
Roles of Movement Control Units (MCUs):
Planning and Coordination of Troop Movements: MCO is responsible for planning and coordination the movement of troops, vehicles, and equipment across various terrains and modes of transport (rail, road, air, and sea).
Ensure the timely and efficient transportation of personnel and material during peacetime, training exercises, and wartime operations.
Logistical Support to Soldiers
It Provides logistical support for deployments and redeployments of units as well as individual soldiers.
MCO plays vital role in managing the loading and unloading of troops, arms, and supplies at railheads, ports, and airfields.
Operational Control During Emergencies:
The MCO act as a key agency for controlling and executing movements during national emergencies, natural disasters, or military escalations.
Besides this it Coordinates with civilian authorities and agencies for the requisition and utilization of transport resources.
